Societal Brainwashing Begins in the Cradle!

Growing up in a heterosexist society can be a challenge to us all. Especially those of us who grow up to discover, yep, I’m gay. We absorb the societal norms that surround us even on a subconscious level. Not only do we have to “de-program” ourselves from homophobic notions but also liberate ourselves from sexist gender assumptions. Blue for boys, pink for girls. A truck for Bobby, a doll for Suzie, etc

Liberating "ourselves" from sexist gender assumptions--blue for boys and pink for girls--may work for many people in the women's community but that thought discounts the feelings of a fairly good-sized group, specifically the Butch-Femme community, who like the "truck for boys, dolls for girls" construct.

I couldn't pick up a truck and play with it if I had to, and that's truely how I feel. Trucks don't interest me because my mind doesn't flow that way. Sugar and spice and everything nice (throw in home-cooked meals in there, somewhere, too), is my foundation, and society at large didn't "program" me to be that way, this is how my "internal" wiring works and has since day one. I was born wearing lipstick and stilettos and drew my first breath in this world as a femme woman.

I LIKE being a girl...I LIKE pink.. and flowers.. and lace...I LIKE being into Butches. The Butch-Femme dance rawks my world, in every way possible. For those who don't see it this way, you're certainly entitled to your opinions, just don't minimize the thoughts and lives of those of us who feel differently.

In the end, we're all in this same boat together, and those groups in the women's community who "marginalize" other groups because they don't follow along with the "preferred" dogma only give those, who would be against us, more ammunition... ...

...meant to say, "...and drew my first breath in this world as a femme."
